Designed to revolutionise waste management, Self Tipping Skips combine superior safety features with user-friendly operation. These innovative skips are available in both heavy-duty 5mm steel for robust applications and more economical 2.3mm or 3mm options, providing flexibility to meet various needs and budgets.

Self tipping skips, also known as telehandler skips or auto lock tipping skips, are mainly used with telehandlers on construction or house building sites.  This type of skip eliminates the need for safety chains and manual levers and the operator can remain within the cab of the telehandler throughout the entire operation. It is a great way to increase safety and efficiency of time on a busy building site.

The skips are generally used for waste separation and can be painted different colours and labelled accordingly to identify different types of waste.

Why choose the Autolock Tipping Skips over a manually operated Tipping Skip?

All of our tipping skips are available in either standard manual tip or Auto Tip.

With the manual option the forklift truck operator will manually release the skip to enable it to tip and empty by pulling on the lever at the rear of the tipping skip. This is the most cost-effective option and is ideal when you are emptying the waste at low level or onto the ground.

Auto Lock Tipping Skips

Improved Safety

The Auto Tip option is worth strong consideration on a number of counts. The operation of Auto Tip means that the operator does not leave the forklift truck during tipping which is a great benefit in terms of operator safety. A large amount of tipping skips is emptied into large RORO containers which are up to 2800mm high. The Auto Tip unit means that the operator has no need to attempt to climb on the RORO or the forklift to pull a release handle.

Easy Discharge of Waste

To operate the Auto Tipping unit the operator simply raises the mast high enough to clear the waste container and then lowers the tipping skip down meaning the auto release bar will activate the tipping mechanism and the load will discharge itself. When the unit is empty it is returned to the ground the lock will re-engage making the tipping skip ready to use again. All of this operation is carried out whilst the operator remains safely in the forklift truck.

Fully Mounted

Auto Tip units need to be mounted on steel feet or castors to ensure the auto tipping mechanism is clear of the ground. This raises the height of tipping skips by between 120mm and 190mm.

However, with the Self Tipping Skip, using a telehandler vehicle, the operator is able to remain in the vehicle and empty the contents of the skip automatically, increasing efficiency and safety.

How do you operate a Self Tipping Skip?

The auto lock tipping skip works in the following steps:

01

Insert telehandler forks into the skip’s fork tunnels

The telehandler operator carefully drives forward, sliding the forks fully into the fork tunnels of the self tipping skip, ready for lifting.

02

Lifting activates the skip’s automatic locking system

As the skip is raised, a gas-assisted ram and pendulum mechanism automatically engage, securely locking the skip onto the forks to prevent tipping.

03

Tilt the forks to discharge the waste into container

The operator moves the loaded skip over a container such as a RORO and tilts the forks of the telehandler, causing the skip to empty safely.

04

Lower skip to release the autolock mechanism

After emptying, the skip is returned to the ground, where the locking system automatically disengages as the forks are lowered.

What is a self tipping skip and how does it operate?

A self-tipping skip is a waste container designed to automatically tip and empty its contents when lifted by a telehandler. Once the forks are inserted into the skip's fork tunnels, the skip locks onto the forks. Tilting the forks forward activates the tipping mechanism, allowing for safe and efficient waste disposal without manual handling.

What materials are suitable for disposal in self tipping skips?

Self-tipping skips are versatile and can handle various materials, including general waste, scrap metal, offcuts, packaging, and production waste. Optional features like drain taps, mesh sides, and lids make them suitable for handling liquids, swarf, bulky loads, and outdoor waste.

What vehicle is required to operate a self tipping skip?

Self tipping skips are designed for use with a telehandler. They feature fork tunnels that accommodate the forks of these machines, ensuring secure lifting and controlled tipping. Models include auto-lock mechanisms for enhanced safety during operation.

What safety features are included with self tipping skips?

Safety is key in the design of self-tipping skips. Standard features include heel pins to secure the skip to the telehandler forks, preventing accidental disengagement. Optional safety enhancements include auto-lock mechanisms, braked castors, and lids to contain waste during transport.

Can self tipping skips be customised to specific requirements?

Absolutely. Self-tipping skips can be customised with various options to meet specific needs. Customisation options include different skip sizes, castor wheels, lids, drain taps, mesh height increases, and extra heavy-duty construction. These features ensure the skip is tailored to the operational requirements of different industries.

What are the benefits of using self tipping skips?

Self-tipping skips improve efficiency and safety in waste management processes. They allow for quick and easy disposal of waste materials without the need for manual handling, reducing the risk of injury. Their design facilitates easy transport and tipping, making them ideal for use in factories, construction sites, and other industrial settings.
